THE CARETAKER

Theoretical Design for the Bristol Old Vic Main House | 2018

By Harold Pinter |  Director - Bill Alexander | Set + Costume Design - Roisin Martindale

REIMAGINING PINTER

I immediately loved the intensity and power dynamics at play in The Caretaker, but I felt drawn to dig deeper into the possibilities for the characters and what their relationships could mean for a modern audience.
From this research, three reinventions emerged of Aston, Mike and Davies in the form of queer outcasts living in post-war London. I placed all the detail of this character research into their costumes and belongings.
